Rothie Rovers 0 Formartine United 5
Formartine’s preparations for their inaugural season in the Highland League got off to the best possible start with a comfortable 5-0 victory over a competitive Rothie Rovers team at Rothienorman .
The Formartine starting 11 included debuts for Stewart Gray, Stuart Cumming, Daniel Watson and Kenny Coull, who also wore the captains armband.
Formartine took an early lead after 6 minutes when Mark Young converted a penalty after Patrick Vigurs was brought down. Adam Maitland scored a second in the 9th minute when he neatly ran on to a Mark Young header. Young added his second and Formartine’s third just before the half hour running onto a perfectly weighted Shinnie through ball.
Half Time 3-0
The second half was played in a more or less constant downpour with Formartine, despite controlling most of the possession, having to wait until the 75th minute to extend their lead when Kenny Coull scored with a low powerful drive. Marc Young finished off the scoring in the last minute when he rounded the keeper to score with a low shot on the angle and complete his hat-trick.
