ARE WE RELEGATED??

or have we been shafted big time ??

Sorry for lack of ativity on this page -please keep going to Forum on topic Superleague next season.

Hit Forum button to get to it, and then hit the button on that to get to the constantly changing views on this issue. There have been 2000+ views and about 100 responses. I'm keeping you up to date there but as the issue now involves so many others, I think that at the moment, it's our best way of reporting a fast moving news situation.

News today --Friday 13th, believe it or not, says that Lewis United have successfully appealed to SJFA against the decision of North Region Association to deny them promotion from Div 1 to Superleague. It is understood that the SJFA decision is to recommend  that Lewis be promoted. That, as it stands, means Formartine would be playing in Division 1 next season. The decision has been taken but is regarded in many quarters to be unwise and unsafe --website's been in enough trouble from Hamden this season to use stronger language. Formartine will do everything in its power to set things right. This is not over yet by a long shot. We shall delay the intended rebuild and re-design of the website until this reaches it's hopefully successful conclusion.

P.S. There's a lot more about this on the forum. Just go to home page and click on Forum button.

P.P.S. I attach a copy of the paper delivered at Regional Assocition Meeting --it outlines the reasons why Lewis United should not have been promoted. What if they won the superleague, entered the Scottish Cup and played the dons at Shedocksley or Inverdee.?

Formartine Survive in Superleague!!

As of tonight,Tuesday 13th May,and following a brilliant battling display that rocked Culter's league hopes, Formartine retain Superleague status.

At the Association AGM on Sunday past, it was agreed by a 45-21 majority that Lewis United could not, despite their excellent First Division record, be promoted to Superleague because not only did they not have a ground that complied with Superleague requirements, they did not have a ground at all. The situation was then that the second bottom club in the Superleague [that meant either Formartine or Hermes - depending on Formartines last two results] might have to face a play off against the third team in Division 1. Tonight, Lad's club ensured 3rd place in Division 1. They do have a ground, but with all due respect to them, it is light years short of compliance and the AGM  voted unanimously to deny them entry even via a play off. Formartine, therefore survive.

If you think this is just about technicalities, think again. Clubs without grounds, don't have overheads for pitch maintenance, electricity and so on and can then spend all the saved money on players, coaches etc. It's not about technicalities, it's about being fair.

Corser return?

Followers of Highland League will have noticed that Former Formartine captain and midfield general Niall Corser has been transfer listed by Huntly FC. The player who is a P.E. teacher in Banff is understood to be as keen to join a junior club as a Highland league one. Formartine intend to make contact to explore the situation. Clearly Dave McGinlay at Huntly will be looking for some cash for the lad but we are rumoured to be comfortably short of insolvency. Website will keep you posted.

Eddie Copland on Board?

The website can confirm that an approach has been made to Eddie Copland, recently manager at Hermes, and formerly in playing and coaching roles with Huntly and Locos to join the Formartine coaching team.  It is unknown at this point whether he has formally accepted but a man of his experience, who is one of the characters in the game will be an undoubted asset.

and a farewell from Scotty

"Now that John Gardiner has been appointed, can I thank you and everyone at Formartine for their support and encouragement throughout my brief spell as number two to Thainer.

It was a pleasure working with the players, who are an honest, professional and hard working group of players.

Can I also say the setup at Formartine from top to bottom is first class.

From the coaches at the boys club, to the people who work behind the scenes at Formartine, there are a lot of great people involved, who give up their spare time to make the club such a great, well run and respected club in the North East.

Finally can I wish John Gardiner and his new management team the very best of luck.

Many Thanks"

Scott Taylor

OK: This is, so to speak, Olds rather than News . Here is a photo of Formartine around the time they moved from Amateur to Junior -- deek the boots, the baggy shorts and lace up ball. The names are available, but the site's nae for pittin them up quite yet. Instead, Scoop offers a bottle of whisky for the person who can tell him most about any or all of the people in the photo. The lad, second from right in the front row must have some jock strap [from the way his shorts are hingin'] know anything about him? Another in the back row went onto much greater things. Award for Graff!!

Multi talented all-rounder Glen Graffin has won the Offshore Contracters Association Future Star Award. OCA Chairman, Bob Keiller predicted that the "ape" "would no doubt become an OIM or higher."

Congratulations from all to the wee terrier-- he is obviously valued as much by the Wood Group as he is by the club.

Story from P+J

Nae Photies this week

Apologies for lack of photos of Longside Game. Photograher Johnny Lees' new Porsche is a bit of a nuisance for the club. Having got his soft top pride and joy he has been instructed, by the insurers, that it must be garaged at night. Not being a lad for half measures, he has been heavily engaged in the erection  of something which initially looked like a Swiss Ski lodge but is now much more like a temple to the God of Ferdinand Porsche himself. Winter is coming in and the temple gates are incomplete. He needed Saturday [he works his butt off through the week] to install said temple gates and the change of the clocks left him nae choice but to devote his time to the temple rather than the match. Normal service is expected to be resumed shortly.

He sent his apologies before the game and I apologise for delay in getting this on site.

FOZZY / DAVID BOOTH

Saturday was a bad day in terms of performance and the end result; however, the biggest blow probably came within the first 90 seconds when Ross "Fozzy" Forsyth - a revelation since arriving almost a year ago from Inverurie Locos, and in particular this season - suffered a sickening collision with the perimeter railing at Ian Mair Park. Suffering from concussion, he was taken to hospital in Aberdeen where x-rays revealed a triple fracture of the cheekbone. Although not detained, Ross will return to ARI on Thursday to be assessed for an operation on Friday (28th). I spoke with him on Saturday tea-time and again on Sunday and, although banned from any form of contact for six weeks, he was in reasonable spirits and is already talking about maintaining his fitness to hopefully limit the time beyond this that he will be out. I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing Ross a speedy recovery.

Approaching the other end of the spectrum, David Booth is hoping to start light training within the next 7-10 days following his ankle ligament injury, and hopefully it won't be too much longer before he's ready to fight it out again for a striking berth. We look forward to welcoming him back.

Thainer.

Bruce Cutler in the USA

Congratulations to all at Formartine for your tremendous start to the season.

I thought those who played with Bruce last season might like to know that he has finally scored his first collegiate goal. His team were in action against Rollins College, ranked regionally at number four, and it provided a thrilling encounter which turned in 13 goals yes, THIRTEEN goals. The final result was a 7 - 6 win for Saint Leo’s with Bruce scoring goal number 5 from the penalty spot in addition to being credited with two assists. A good evening’s work!

Long may your winning streak continue; Bruce looks at your web-site every week to keep up to date with your progress and is delighted with your successes to date.

Best wishes to all,

Fiona Cutler

New addition (not signing - yet !!)

Delighted to announce the safe arrival of Andrew James Beattie early on Monday morning (10th September 2007, 7.16am), a second son for our Club Captain, Michael Beattie, and his wife Karen, and a baby brother for Cameron. I'm sure everyone at North Lodge - on and off the park - will join me in congratulating them all (and thanking Karen for making it a Monday !!).

Our best wishes to you all.

  Thainer.

This only goes to show that this class act can score at every level and never fires blanks!

More Good News from Thainer!

and even more!!

I am pleased to confirm the signing last night (Thursday) of former Hillhead midfielder Paul Cheyne. Experienced in midfield and defensively, Paul had been with Hillhead since they joined the Junior ranks, originally as Wilsons XI, and will provide competition both at the back and in midfield. He will come straight into the squad for tomorrow's Inter-Regional Cup-tie v. Lewis United at New Advocates Park (2.15pm).

LATEST SIGNINGS

I am pleased to report two further additions to the squad, with the signings last night (Thursday) of strikers Simon Haddaway and Steve Rae. The duo - who shared the five goals in our opening SuperLeague fixture at Hermes last week, and will provide further competition up-front - have arrived at North Lodge via differing routes. I first saw Steve playing for Huntly U-21.s - on the same night defender Steve "Jaffa" Jeffrey came to my attention - back in January at a cold Christie Park. Having completed the season with Dyce U-19.s, Steve has since weighed up various options, and we are delighted to now welcome him to North Lodge.

Simon arrived for pre-season training following a tip-off received by our Physio, Keith Fraser. Having lived in France since the age of 3,Simon returned to the UK in recent years to study before moving to Aberdeen. He has been out injured for 18 months, but has worked extremely hard since 23rd June, taken his chance when it came, and is a fantastic example of someone who has set his personal targets and done everything in his power to get there. He, too, thoroughly deserves his chance. We look forward to helping both players develop, and hopefully enjoy success with Formartine United.

Thainer

David Booth

Many of you will have seen the first half injury that David sustained against Culter last week. The news is that he has sustained ligament damage and a bone crack. The latter, serious enough in its own right, is considered slight enough not to need plaster but is heavily strapped. He will be out for several [hopefully not more than 6-8 ]weeks. We extend our sympathy to the wee terrier who was just beginning to show his full potential before picking up the injury. We are all rooting for you and wish you a quick recovery.

Religious Conversion!

Staunch Ulsterman and Rugby fan, Tim Rea who is the technical brain behind this website has been converted to football at the age of 43-- see Odds and Sods to see why.

News from USA.

For those of us with fond memories of Bruce Cutler's  contribution last season the following e-mail from his lottery winning mother is an update on the lad's progress on the other side of the pond .

I thought I’d drop you a line to give you an update on Bruce’s progress in the States.

Things are definitely different over there and I don’t just mean the language. He’s missing the liquid refreshment that was an important feature of socializing!  All the team have now reported for preseason and he is one of a squad of 35 players. There are 10 new players joining the squad this year and it is quite an international mix. Competition for starting places is tough (no change there then) but he is really happy with how training is going. They’re training twice a day – yesterday morning in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees (somewhat hotter than he’s used to at Pitmedden) and have “team-bonding activities” in the afternoon. They have a friendly (a bounce game) next week before flying 800 miles for their first south region league match on August 23rd. This match will be broadcast live on the internet for those of you who have nothing better to do at midnight!

He was invited by one of his squad members to join his team playing in a 3 a-side competition in Orlando which they won. He has a “pretty neat” trophy and the team is National 3 a-side champions. He was adamant that he would not be using American expressions but already the language is entering our conversations.

I know he is keen to wish Formartine all the best in the new season and, once he has his laptop set to access internet, will be regularly checking on your web site for news of your success.

All the best for season 2007 – 2008.

Fiona Cutler

Newer Signings

I am really pleased to report further signings which I am sure will strengthen the side for next season. In come strikers David Booth from Huntly  and formerly of the Aberdeen youth squad and Stuart Sim, recently with Glentanar and Cove Rangers. Some of you will remember David's impressive trial appearance with us last season. We are now in a position where there will be the level of competition for places in the forward area that we have aspired to and that can only bode well for us this coming season .

On a sadder note, Dave [Psycho] Christie has decided that the time has come for him, to hang up his gloves.  We thank him sincerely for all that he has given the club, both on and off the park over his years with us. The keeper position remains covered  with the arrival of Ricky Horne from Dyce and the continuing development of Craig Duguid.

We are still in discussion about one or two other possible additions to the side and will keep you posted as events unfold.

Pre- season training is already well under way and the cobwebs of summer relaxation have been blown away by Scotty's demanding regime. We have a pre-season tournament at Keith to look forward to , but the season itself is fast approaching and we hope to see you all there to give us the outstanding support which helped us so much in the season past.

All the best,

Thainer

NEW SIGNINGS

As previously reported, I was delighted to re-sign the bulk of the current squad back in March, and since then Ross Anderson, Chris Allsop, Barry Wilson and Peter Tawse have moved on to pastures new. In addition, both Allan Padua and Bruce Cutler are heading to the USA on soccer scholarships. In their place, I am delighted to announce the following arrivals : -  adding strength and competition to the goalkeeping position, Ricky Horne arrives from Dyce (in a swop deal for Ross Anderson) and  defensively, the Hillhead duo of ex-Peterhead youngster James Seivwright and the experienced Neil England, are joined by former Buckie defender Gordon Pirie from Sunnybank: further forward, former Peterhead and Parkvale midfielder, Neal Burrows also joins from Hillhead.

We remain in the market for further cover in midfield and up-front, and hope to have further announcements before the players report back on Saturday week (23rd June).   We're delighted with the new additions, and I'm sure they'll be welcomed with open arms. However, retaining our existing players and staff is every bit as important.

During the close season, first team Coach, Lenny McDonald was approached by another Junior side with a view to joining as Manager; Assistant Manager Scott Taylor had a coaching opportunity with a Highland League side; and Club Captain Mike Beattie also had an opportunity to return to the higher grade. For various positive reasons they have decided to remain at Formartine, and hopefully this too shows we're moving in the right direction.
